Join me as we take a look at the concepts and principles of Minimalism. First introduced by John M. Carroll in his 1990 book, The Nurnbuerg Funnel – Designing Minimalist Instruction for Practical Computer Skill, Minimalism introduced new ways of viewing the audience and information proliferation based on his cognitive science research at Harvard and Columbia.  Minimalism techniques are aimed to help the user learn more effectively based on the reduction of content interference both in content substance and design.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • The basic history and principles of Minimalism.
  • Minimalism in the 21st century.
  • Fresh ways to think of your audience (end-user).
  • Some key techniques to help minimize your writing.

About Our Speaker

Faith Peralta found her way to technical writing many years after graduating with a degree in English Composition from the University of North Texas.  (To hear her full story, check out episode 4 of the podcast Inside Tech Comm with Zohra Mutabanna.) Not coming from a technical writing background academically, Faith explored the tech comm world via her own research, which brought her to Minimalism.  “I fell in love with Minimalism because acquiring technical acumen is not easy and can often be complicated by superfluous documentation.  The philosophy and techniques of Minimalism have really helped me be successful at analyzing  what my key learners need and delivering beneficial content.”

Faith has been a Technical Writer at a healthcare software company for six years and she loves it!  In her spare time, she is a dog Mama to a Chihuahua called Raleigh and a plant Mama to those genera she can keep alive!  She also loves to cook and read cookbooks, speaking of following procedures…!
